Napoleon's influence in germany grew. The hapsburgs began to worry that he might steal the empire out from under them and have either himself or a puppet elected holy roman emperor. By late 18 o five, he had an alternative plan for germany,. similar to the holy roman empire, but without any of the old, outdated feudal trappings. In the wake of the battle of austerlitz and treaty of presburg, those plans were coming closer to fruition.
