How to Hack an App or Pay for It?

If you've got the choice, would you hack it or would you pay for it? A lot of people just hack it. They use sync thing or drop box or iCloud or Google Drive. And I pay for obsidian. Like I use it, like I rely on it. It is my, it is my daily driver application. We could quite happily just give up my Spotify subscription for paying obsidian.
