The History of the European Coal Industry
Before natural gas for hundreds of years, there was a different fuel that Europe relied on. Cole had been used for home heating for centuries but it was the most important fuel of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. In 1951, European countries got together to form something called the European Cole and Steel community. And Germany was the biggest producer of Cole in the world behind the US and Great Britain.
