The Importance of Investing in the Open Internet
In the 90s and early 2000s, I think it's frankly it's the success of American imperialism. The US is creating a global system that is oriented around ensuring that Western capital can easily access more markets. So engagement with the WTO or the general agreement on trade, proceeds largely on American terms. That begins to fracture over time. In recent years, we've begun to see more and more of that with Europe getting more frustrated that so many major US companies dominate its tech sector.
