The Sir David Asenborough will spend half the year in the southern ocean that surrounds Antarctica. We really need more measurements of basic things like temperature and salinity as we go down into the ocean, he says. The other thing that's great about the ship is it's really good to act as mothership for lots of extra measuring equipment such as Boatou McBoatface.
