The Role of Vows in Marriage

Katie Couric: I wanted to read you this statement that she made. She was told by her mother and by her father that they had lived in a long line of people who believed that their role was designed by God to bring light and goodness and faith to the world. And so here she was as a 21 year old taking seriously that she felt a stewardship. Katie, why do we make vows in marriage? Because it's not about us saying to our spouse, I love you. It's about acknowledging that God has created this institution of family of marriage with its sacredness.
