As an experienced medical professional, what were the risks associated with giving these boys and their coach anaesthesia in the cave environment? i think you have to be a cave dava or an anaesthesiologist to realize at a submerging an unconscious person for three hours and expecting that they're going to still be alive three hours later is fraught with peril. So i thought that for sure, these kids will e flood the mask and drown inside their mask at some point over that three hour journey. And under annacesa the water especially, strips heat from your body very, very rapidly.
Dr. Richard "Harry" Harris is an anesthesiologist and expert cave diver who was tasked with a seemingly impossible mission: to rescue a boys' soccer team trapped 2.5 miles deep within a flooded cave in Thailand. He talks with Maya about his decision to heed the call.
