The Role of Hepsidin in PV

In a mouse bone marrow transplant model of PV driven by an inducible expression of JAC2-V617F, the investigators found that hepsidin levels were critical for governing the severity of PV. Hepsidin was clearly shown to be a key driver of the severity of the PV phenotype, according to Girelli and Busti. These findings increase interest in manipulating iron homeostasis in PV.
