Gothic stories aren't just about processing difficult emotions or dark thoughts. There is usually a class element as well. Gothic literature took off during the Industrial Revolution when massive amounts of wealth were being created, dividing old money from new money and the rich from everyone else. That's why his novel, Tripping Arcadia is about a young woman who goes to work for a super rich family that can ruin people's lives without a second thought. But the character does have one tool at her disposal: poison.
