The NHS Strike Could Have a Significant Impact on Patient Care
NHS Confederation estimates up to a quarter of a million appointments and operations will need to be postponed if the four-day walkout goes ahead. NHS England has previously said that the three-day strike junior doctors undertook earlier in March led to 175,000 appointments and operations being postponed. The timing of the strike as well, directly after the Easter Bank holiday, during the school holidays is also going to cause a real headache for hospitals. But it's still not entirely clear whether this will cover the full amount of the uplift or whether savings by the Department of Health or indeed any other departments will be required to make up some of that.
