The Legal Liability of Leaks of Patient Information
HIPAA actually lays out the penalties for leaking protected health information and if you do it unintentionally then I think it's like $50 per individual piece of information. The perceived risk is much higher than the practical risk because so far the practical risk is zero after 10 years 15 years but again despite that you know it's still in the back of your mind. It's totally unclear whether that would happen but the fear of it happening does stay present in our mind.
