The Differences Between NATO and Outside Observers on the Summit's Success
Netherlands will begin training Ukrainian pilots to use F-16 fighter jets. Zelensky called the summit a success in a statement on Twitter last night. But there are pretty divergent interpretations of the summit depending on one's viewpoint. Matthew Leit, associate professor of criminology and European studies at the University of Toronto tweeted about revealing a conversation he had with two diplomats from Western European NATO countries who attended the summit. They expressed puzzlement if not frustration that anyone would expect Ukraine to be admitted or given a clear timeline for accession which they viewed as a non-starter in itself. The exchange left me with a sense that these officials and close observers of the post-Soviet region
