Facebook's internet dot org project was a way to get on to all those smart phones, practically. Many people and even the government saw it as an attempt by facebook to control the internet. The government ended up outright banning the project. But lucky for zuckerburg, he would still have a way to those hundreds of millions of users. In the years following facebook's acquisition, watap, the ap, flourished in india because it was simple with far fewer features in social media aps like facebook. Watsap was a success, except in one respect, revenue. That subscription watsap originally charged, facebook removed it.
