Historic memory focuses on a battle like Borodino, the one Tolstoy uses as a metaphor for the revival of Russian patriotism. The 1813-14 campaign was arguably boring to use Leven's term compared to Osterlitz or Borodino. In the same way, perhaps Ukraine has to fight a different kind of war now that doesn't draw the headlines in the same way as the counter-fences we saw last year.
