Alaska airlines had also required n plate checks at every other c check. But these intervals changed over time as well. So they were just trying to extend every mechanical check as long as possible as a cost cutting measure, and this plane crashed and these people died because of it. No evidence indicated that the airplane experienced any pre impact structural or system failuresother than those associated with the longitudinal trim control system,. The horizontal stabilizer stopped responding to auto pilot and pilot commands.
