The SIPI diet from like the early 1900s before we had PPIs and H2 blockers, you absolutely used a lot of bicarbonate to treat pepic ulcers. In this study, they were able to excrete virtually all of that excess bicarb. Their serum bicarb went up maybe two, three, four milliocovents,. which is not that much when you think about how much they were taking externally. And so what this kind of highlights is the fact that to maintain the metabolic alkalosis, there has to be a problem with the kidney.
