Do You Want a Strong Ego?
Lacan has no patience for quote depth psychology, particularly the American tradition. He thought the worst thing you could do for a patient was to make their ego stronger. Lacan's great intervention is to point out something of which Freud was ignorant. When Freud is working, there are no departments of linguistics. Repression is a symbolic activity. What's repressed is not the entire traumatic event. That's what I took from that and I want to know how we feel about that.
