Dien's History
The Dien kingdom or Dien culture as it's also referred to was contemporary with the eastern Zhou and the Han. The character Dien is often used as a written abbreviation for Yunnan province in all kinds of ways. According to the chapter Xinan Yi, the Yi or Nan Han people of the southwest, Sima Chen says Dien was founded in 279 BC. This Yi term was how historians refer to these people, like barbarians. More about them later on in the series.
