The Side Effects of Grunge

The sound of grunge expanded from its little corner of America to, well, everywhere. Sloane originally pegged as Canada's answer to Nirvana; Halifax considered Seattle East. The Britpop scene of the middle 1990s was prompted in large part by grunge. Some people within the UK were most disturbed by how popular American bands with their flannel and detuned guitars were becoming in Britain.
