Helen Otaway's Tribute to the White Stalk

The last white stalk that nested in Britain was 1416 on St Charles Cathedral in Edinburgh. They are the white stalks that you'll see in Europe with those big shaggy nests on top of churches. So we've been missing them for 600 years in Britain. The birds flying over to Britain, finding a place to nest and pair up. And they do this amazing bill clattering to bond with each other. It's mesmeric, isn't it? I think you need to be in one of those wonderful, huge painted Tibetan halls and just be sitting there on your cushion for three hours," she says.
