The Importance of Consciousness in Action

Recent developments in neuroscience and cognitive psychology have led people to question whether consciousness can play a causal role in our actions. So this is the idea that volitions, these wishes that precede actions we think are in some sense epiphenomenal. That's exactly right. They're just like a commentary that comes a split second after the things started anyway. And nothing they say shows that it doesn't.
