It's a completely different skill set to write a new bubble sort or like use an existing bubble sort and design how to build maintainable software. So whichever one of those things you want to do should really color when, you know, how you structure your career in the first place. I feel like there are very few large companies where I could go from like display advertising to educational research with minimal friction.
