The browser's default behavior is more complicated than it seems, especially when it comes to the user clicking various links all in quick succession. There are race conditions involved in that. The architecture we're transitioning to drastically simplifies that. And as far as fire and forget is concerned, like if you did that, then you wouldn't be able to recover. We really do have full control over the browser experience at this point.
