Men and women seem to get different kinds of cultural education that make intimacy difficult for them in different ways. For example, many of the women i work with have a difficult time expressing their needs. They have internalized cultural programming that says, loving women have no needs. So to demonstrate their love for others, they believe that you must suppress your needs in favor of the other person. Men, on the other hand, seem to have a real difficulty expressing their feelings,. especially any feelings that imply vulnerability, like feeling hurt or sad or lonely.
