The Importance of Meaning in the Cross
Gerard audaciously challenges those in the humanistic sciences to reconsider the cross as a source of empirical, meaning historical, factual insight. Gerard: We don't have to read meaning into it because in and of itself, as a historical event, it defies meaning. This is mimetic theory. I analyze and I examine the true meaning of the original action so that I can mimic it in the present tense to bring about the same results.
