The book is written from Verity's point of view. Loewin believes that this is the memoir she was writing when she writes explicit sex scenes or things about her ex-boyfriend, Jeremy. She thinks what it was is she was trying to find a reason for her to be able to get close to Jeremy. "I have a really hard time understanding how somebody would feel that way without severe mental illness"
