Is Apple Going to Do Undivised Scanning?
Craig Federighi confirmed to join a Stern that they have abandoned their previous plans for undivised scanning of child sexual abuse material, the CSAM stuff. They didn't give any more details like, what are they going to do that? And in another case where they're going to put themselves in, they're making a target of themselves because people are going to be able to say that Apple has now no facility to scan for those images. If they're all encrypted on the server, Apple can't scan them. I think that they are trying to walk the walk here to a certain degree with their discussions of privacy commitments,. knowing that it's going to blow back.
