George Saunders Reads Claire Keegan

The New Yorker: Fiction

CHAPTER

The Disgruntled Person

The language in this book is very suggestive of the character's state of mind. I thought also the way that the POV here is so interesting because it kind of sneaks up on you. Claire Keegan seems to have this ability to kind of abide with this guy, and you know, she could throw him off the bridge at any moment but she sticks with him. And I think that's the real accomplishment. As in the end, you dislike massage anymore, and you feel more sorry for him, I think.
