The Role of Air in Breathing
Lavoisier thought there were two components of air, one that was usable and one that was more inert. He went on to suggest that this component of air is taken up by the lungs and passed into blood where it is involved in heat production and muscle movement. That's why breathing increases during exercise since you need more of this substance in the air to move. And we'll get back to Lavoisier in a second. Okay.
