Is It Don't Mean You're a Doormat?
There's a huge number of parallels, I think, between 12 steps and all the stuff that you're describing. In 12 steps, they tell you very, very specifically to look out for exactly those sticky thoughts,. They call them defects of character, usually. But like, you know, something like, like a resentment towards someone else. Is like one of these sticky thoughts that you just can't let yourself stay stuck in it. And so extending compassion to people that you find at the hardest to extend that compassion to is true compassion. It doesn't mean you're a doormat. Having healthy boundaries with people is compassionate.
