Is There a Relationship Between Proliferation and Aerial Identity?

There's a relationship between proliferation of dividing neural progenitors in the VZ and aerial identity. We discovered that if you look at two adjacent areas, for example, the somatosensory cortex has a very thick layer of four; motor cortex doesn't have it. And we essentially discovered that it's largely explainable by differences in proliferation. It's obviously a sort of a connectomics problem, right? You want to optimize the ability of axons to find their targets by reducing the territory they have to cover to find their personality target.
