The oceans were already almost poised to be devoid of oxygen or we call it anoxic - so they're almost ready to be the anoxic. Well this just kept them all the way over the edge and it also caused a significant change in climate because of the amount of carbon that was buriedBecause you had so much extra nutrients in the ocean,. So the whole, the climate got cooler and so that didn't help things.
