The Impact of the Cockpit Voice Recorder on Air Traffic Control
The impact was so severe, and the black box technology was still a little primitive back then in 1987 that the cockpit voice recorder was pretty damaged. The recording kind of ends seven seconds later. So I'm going to assume that there beyond there, the recording just ceased to work or was unrecoverable. And because they were at 22,000 feet, you're looking at about four and a half miles. They were going very fast, but to cover that in seven seconds would be extreme way like way too fast.
