Paleontology and history are trying to find clues from the past. And with dinosaurs, dinosaurs tell us so much about how real organisms have responded to all of these different things that the Earth and the climate throw at organisms over the years. So we could learn a lot about them in the Permian period. This was before the dinosaurs. There was a major catastrophic event that helped launch the dinosaurs. They basically gave the dinosaurs their opportunity because the world was reshaped by this catastrophe. The recovery did take a long time, but not everything died out; there were some survivors who survived. We want to study this moment when climates change quickly and dramatically.
