The development of the cortex and the capacity to think, in other words, to generate virtual realities is an important part of what we mean by a conscious human. And as much as i say that consciousness in its most rudimentary form is simply raw feeling, then i don't want to pretend for a moment that e, the cognitive, conscious thinking, deliberative, the reflective kinds of consciousness are uniquely human.
