The ideal balance for exploring new things versus optimizing those already found is one third. As you mature, it is harder to devote time to exploring because it seems unproductive but aim for a third. Don't attribute to malice what can be attributed to ignorance. Give other people the benefit of the doubt. It's okay to try new things. Just do it.
