If one was enslaved and said, i'm not feeling well, we learned very early on that you could not complain. So imagine the luxury then, of the descendants of these ancestors, in common parlance, to be able to sit for an hour and talk about your feelings. That's not something that historically has always been afforded to black people. And it is not a luxury. It is something that we hope becomes a right, a privilege, something that you take up," she says.
