What Rights Did Slaves Have?
There were two slave markets in rome. The main one was in the forum, which is a market place for luxury goods. This is where you would go ye to buy slaves. They'd kind of come with a little description quite often. So it's a guess, parallel with buying an animal. And indeed, there are quite a few parallels you could make between the way that we treat animals and the way the romans think about slaves.
