Jeremy Lambert's Death
All through march, parliament debated the humble petition. Clause by clause, lambert tried to orchestrate an opposition. The majority was against him, and the humble petition started getting passed. Cromwell received their work with thanks and said, let me think about it. Three days later he called representatives of parliament over to meet them. He told them: 'There's one or two small things i think you can change' But when they insisted on taking out the bit about cromwell becoming king, he refused. From then on, the role of the army as a political power, unto itself, went into permanent eclipse.
