Charlie has this very beautiful essay that he keeps reciting throughout the movie and at the end it's revealed that it's written by Ellie. I felt like that was not the main struggle that Ellie was going through at that moment or not in the way that we presented it. It does kind of play into the way people who are traumatized also can become like concerned with themselves, which doesn't always have the best outcomes even if they're trying to do something about it.
