The Music of Poetry by Max Giacobbe
Baudelaire is credited by many people with being the founder or inventor of what's called prose poems. Max Giacobbe who was one of Picasso's best friends and is the main 20th century French poet associated with the prose wrote a book of prose poems in 1917. Elliot really kept developing in his critical writings for decades after the wasteland and it's what he called the music of poetry. When you have images like bats with baby faces hanging upside down or dragging itself softly along the riverbank these kind of images create the sense of expectancy that we often feel in the presence of musical phrases.
