Lach held a quantitative view of survival, it was survival by king, by one's fingertips. He believed that man could figure out what would be the happiest and best sort of life. And to contrast that with black view, I think it was the inheritance of Aristotle, and Aristotle's qualitative concept of what a human life should be. But where is there more than that one view of who man is?
