Is the Accent Acceptable in Public Figures?
I noticed that the speaker of the house, lindsay hoyle, was recently described as having a rich lancastrian accent. I think we make notes of these people who have marisa accents in possitions of great influence and power because they stand out because they're different. Do you think the regional or foreign accents are now being weaponized in the media as a proxy symbol for being progressive? If there is a tradition of political radicalism in this country, which is associated with people from disadvantage classes, then if you want to level up british society it will need more non-standard accents.
