Seneca's Attitude Toward Slavery
Seneca is one of relatively few authors to grasp how slavery inevitably creates these relationships gray. Pliny the younger, weas about slaves and murder three 14 lucius - his slaves are executed for his murder while he's still alive. For it is not by rational calculation that masters are murdered, but by viciousness. The idea of the slave as an enemy is by no means new. Seneca is pulling off a very old tradition.
