As a young writer, you were inspired by folktales and monster stories. Were there any mentors that helped you along the way? I didn't take any writing classes until my last semester of college. Kit Reed taught me how to write fiction; she was an encyclopedic teacher. She knew best-selling authors but wasn't snobby about it.
