Neuroticism Is a Loading Term, Right?
No one wants to be neurotic, right? It makes it sound like being highly neurotic is terrible and being low in neuroticism is great. So I can't do much environmentally to change my level of neuroticism, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing. Evolution has not tried to maximize or minimize these traits. In fact, the average is actually the evolutionary optimal value.
