Hannibal's forces continued to swell, but his run of good fortune seemingly turned when he received reports from the roman camp that another roman consular army had arrived. So sempronius longus had been sent to sicily. He was the consul who was going to invade africa and win the war gloriously by defeating the carthaginians in their own turf. Of course, unfortunately, hannibal had arrived in italy.
