The Importance of Phonics in the Classroom
Reading fluency is best considered as three separate areas: accuracy, automaticity and procidy. When it comes to teaching sound spelling correspondences, we have to practice, practicee practice, practice, practice. We also need to look at a shared love of words - in this case, i don't just mean books and texts. Why individual words are interesting? What's their history? Where have they come from? It's really that teachers know what reading fluency is first and foremost.
