How Do Treasuries Work?

Congress runs a deficit, so it needs to borrow money. The government prints these Treasury bonds or notes or bills and sells them on the market. As they expire and the government pays them off, it issues more. It's exactly like you opening up a new credit card and writing a check on that to pay off the other credit card.
