Is the Clean Energy Standard Really a Clean Energy Requirement?
It was a form of what we call a clean energy standard that requires utilities to meet up to 80 % of their electricity production by 20 30 from renowable energy. What is essentially gone now is the stick. Ther're still subsidies for renewable energy, tax breaks to encourage the move toward solar, wind and other sort of climate friendly measures. But you're not panalized for brinkleu bu not penalizing electricity producers for continuing to double down on fossil fuels. And that includes natural gas as well. Yes, increasingly we call it fossil gas because natural gas makes it almost sound clean and natural. But this is fossil fuel. It's just in the form of gas.
